Assignments

Use this guide for internal assignments, projects, and submissions alongside the PDF notes on this site.

1. Before you start

  • Read the question sheet and marking scheme (if provided).
  • Note word limits, citation style (Bluebook / ILI / as directed), and deadline (date and time).
  • Clarify group vs individual work with the subject teacher.

2. Standard structure (essay / problem type)

  1. Title page — Subject, assignment title, your name & roll number, date.
  2. Introduction — Scope of the question; statutes / concepts you will use.
  3. Main body — Issues, rules, application (IRAC for problem questions).
  4. Conclusion — Short, direct answer to the question.
  5. References — Bare Acts, cases, books; avoid unreliable blogs unless allowed.

3. Problem-style answers (contracts, torts, crime)

  • Use IRAC: Issue → Rule → Application → Conclusion.
  • State facts you assume if the question is incomplete (and say so).
  • Cite sections of Acts and key case holdings where relevant.

4. Drafting & formatting

  • Font: Often 12 pt Times New Roman; line spacing 1.5 unless specified.
  • Margins and page numbers as per department format.
  • Plagiarism: Quote sparingly; paraphrase with attribution.

5. Submission checklist

  • [ ] PDF named as per convention (e.g. RollNo_Subject_Assignment.pdf).
  • [ ] File size within portal limit; scan readable (not blurry).
  • [ ] Covering email / portal form filled if required.

6. Linking to notes on this hub
